Applying to Johns
The demand for on-campus accommodation is extremely high, so to avoid disappointment apply early and follow these easy steps:
1) Lodge an Application through the University Accommodation Services. You can do this online at http://accom.anu.edu.au/ (Applications for Semester 2, 2009 open on 24th April).
2) Select John XXIII College as your first preference (we only make offers to students who put Johns as their number 1 preference)
3) Forward 2 personal/academic written references, along with a passport sized photo, to the following address:-
John XXIII College
GPO Box 417
Canberra, ACT, 2601
Attn:- Dean of Residents
NB- John XXIII College interviews all prospective residents. We conduct face-to-face interviews in Canberra throughout the year (by appointment) and travel to Sydney and Melbourne in early December. You must contact John XXIII College on (02 6125 6900 or enquiries@johnxxiii.anu.edu.au) to arrange an appointment time for an interview. If you are unable to attend these specific times we will endeavour to arrange a suitable time and date for you, or alternatively you can opt for a phone interview.
Important Things to Remember
- You should register for accommodation BEFORE you are offered an academic place at ANU
- Complete the online accommodation application before the cut off date
- Receive and accept an academic offer from the ANU before the cut-off date
- John XXIII College accommodation offers will be made via email. Make sure you check your email regularly
- Accept your Johns accommodation offer within the stipulated timeframe (2 working days for local students, 5 working days for international students). Failure to respond may result in your place being offered to the next student on the rankings. If you decide to defer or choose another university you must advise us of this decision.
It is FREE to register for accommodation so even if ANU is not your first preference, you should still register and arrange a time for an interview, just in case.
INTERVIEW
There is an understandably strong demand for places in John XXIII College. To enable us to select our new residents from the large number of applicants who apply we conduct a 15 —20 minute interview. Interviews are conducted by the Head of College, Dean of Residents, Sub Dean and/or Senior residents of the College.
International students must arrange a phone interview to be considered for a place.
All Australian students will be required to have an interview. Where possible these occur in your nearest, or most convenient, capital city. If you are in a more remote centre (or are the only person from your state) we will conduct a phone interview. Prospective residents who are overseas will also be required to have a phone interview.
ACCEPTANCE BY ANU
On or around 18 January you will be notified whether you have won a place at the ANU. We will also be advised at that time. You will be offered a place based on your ranking from the interview and your application (including references). At this time you will be sent a residential contract and payment plan.
CONTRACTS
John XXIII Contracts are for one (1) full academic year (i.e- 40 weeks). If you are offered a place it is expected that you fulfill the contractual obligation and remain as a resident for the full year. There will be financial penalties for breaking contract.
Once you have been offered a place at Johns you must respond and accept. Following this you will be sent a copy of the fee schedule and a contract. Select your method of payment and complete and sign the contract and send this to:
