COVID-19 UPDATES

Keeping you safe and healthy

Dear All,

See below for more details about the current information as at Friday 22nd October 2021:

Whilst restrictions are easing in ACT, ANU is still on High Alert and the College has a responsibility to keep each other safe. In good news the John XXIII Vaccination rates are extremely high now.

ACTION BY ALL

·       MASKS WORN PROPERLY – covering nose at all times when outside your room.

·       Employment – how it works - Fully vaccinated may attend work, although please immediately report to both SR and HoC if you become a contact or have symptoms.

·       REGISTERED GUEST – 1 only that person may visit your room ONLY – Registered via email to enquiries@johnxxiii.anu.edu.au

·       Floor Bubbles – timeline for Dining Room must be adhered to.

·       If you are going out please remain covid-safe, check-in and check-up.

·       No events at College at all until 29th October

·       Also, 2 buddies on your floor, 1 off it.

·       Only 1 other person in your room at any time to meet spacing requirements.

·       No self service in Dining room yet.

CHECK IN AT COLLEGE

Please check in with the College app when you are using all communal spaces other than the Dining Room. Room spacing is imperative to meet the 1 person per 4 metre capacity in all communal spaces.

A reminder for students to also continue to monitor exposure sites and inform the HoC immediately and follow the instructions if you are listed as a close contact, casual contact or monitor for symptoms. Once again these sites are growing and we need to be aware of locations:

For further information on these key themes please go to: Residential students on campus - ANU acknowledging a couple of key differences for John XXIII, focused on no external visitors to the College.

Thanks to all for your ongoing goodwill, and let's continue to look after each other!!

Best wishes,

John XXIII Team

The below information relates to higher levels of SAHO - Johns is not on these levels at present.

FAQS

Why has the University implemented enhanced stay-at-home orders for student residences?

We’ve implemented enhanced stay-at-home orders for all on-campus residential students to minimise the risk of an outbreak and keep you, your fellow residents and the entire community safe.

These orders have been developed in consultation with ACT Health and will be reviewed again. We will relax these orders as soon as it is safe to do so.

The ACT’s stay-at-home orders are designed for people who live in private accommodation with a small household. Given that shared-living accommodation houses many people and therefore presents much higher risk for transmission between residents, ACT Health has helped us develop enhanced stay-at-home orders appropriate for our on-campus accommodation.

When a close contact is identified in a shared-living residence, all residents will move from these enhanced stay-at-home orders to enhanced stay-at-home quarantine. More information is available below.

What is the process for residential students when a close or casual contact is identified?

Shared-living residences

Close contacts in shared-living residences will be moved into a single apartment to quarantine for 14 days or until advised. ACT Health has designated that residents in shared-living residences with an identified close contact are secondary contacts and therefore have to quarantine. This means they will move from enhanced stay-at-home orders to enhanced stay-at-home quarantine until the close contact receives a negative test result. See below for more information.

Casual contacts in dorms will be moved into a single apartment to quarantine until they receive a negative result. Dorms with an identified casual contact will continue to follow enhanced stay-at-home orders. See below for more information.

In ’shared-living’ residences, what is the difference between enhanced stay-at-home orders and enhanced stay-at-home quarantine?

Enhanced stay-at-home orders are the lockdown restrictions developed with ACT Health specifically for shared accommodation facilities and have been implemented by ANU while the Campus Alert System is a the Extreme/Red Level. These have been developed to ensure the safety of ANU residents as well as the broader ACT community. All ANU on-campus residences, including self-contained residences, are following enhanced stay at home orders, however this will vary slightly from residence to residence.

More information on what is permitted under enhanced stay-at-home orders is outlined below.

Enhanced stay-at-home quarantine is an additional level of protection that will be implemented in shared-living residences (i.e., non-self-contained accommodation) when a close contact is identified within a residence. Note that this additional level of stay-at-home quarantine does not apply to semi- and fully self-contained accommodation on campus, which continues to operate under enhanced stay-at-home at all times.
